Activity Report 2021

2021 has been an eventful year, where we have started a transition phase in our certification scheme within a complex macroeconomic and legal context. The uncertainty generated by the crazy costs of raw materials, energy and transport, as well as a legislative framework on packaging and packaging waste in full review and construction have fueled a perfect storm to sometimes even block decision-making on sustainability in many companies.

Despite the complexity of working in this context, the Foundation has been able to launch its new RETRAY certification scheme, which responds to an evolution of its previous ECOSENSE scheme with two fundamental objectives: to quantify the percentage content of recycled PET incorporated in processes under the requirements of the UNE 15343 standard (RETRAY Process certificate) and launch a product certification to verify compliance with recyclability guidelines and quantify the percentage content of recycled PET incorporated (RETRAY Product certificate).

The success of this and other actions faithfully reflects the dedication and effort of the professionals at the Foundation and also of the commitment of the certified companies and our Board of Trustees. Not overnight, but at a steady pace, we are achieving one of our main objectives: maximizing the available volume of recycled material from the tray-to-tray circuit. We face the year 2022 with the certainty that the RETRAY certification scheme will become the best ally for companies in the sector to respond to the demands of the new regulatory framework.
