ECOSENSE
THE CERTIFICATION
This certification recognizes and disseminates the work of companies that incorporate recycled PET material from delamination processes of post-industrial and post-consumer multilayer waste as secondary raw material into their production processes for the manufacture or use of monolayer and/or multilayer film and/or trays. The certificate can be obtained by PET sheet and tray producers, as well as food packers, which recycle their post-industrial waste and reincorporate into their trays recycled material drawn from any recycler certified by the Foundation.
The ECOSENSE certificate is granted by FUNDACIÓN PLASTIC SENSE once the company’s facilities have undergone an inspection process by a body accredited by ENAC under the ISO/EC 17020 standard, which verifies compliance with the conditions established in the corresponding procedures (PS-RPM-LAM, PS-RPM-BAN or PS-RPM-ENV) by the foundation.
Recyclers that wish to take part in the ECOSENSE certification process must be approved by the PLASTIC SENSE Foundation, through the corresponding procedure (PS-RPM-REC)
WHAT IS RETRAY?
More infoThis certification recognizes and disseminates the work of those companies that introduce, as a secondary raw material in their production processes of manufacture or use of sheet and/or thermoforming, both monolayer and multilayer, colorless transparent recycled PET from recycling processes in the tray-to-tray circuit approved by the Foundation, along with recycled PET from other sources.
RETRAY is a scheme of process certification (RETRAY Process) and a product certification (RETRAY product) and, therefore, the same company can obtain more than one certificate, depending on the number of facilities and products it wants to certify. Specifically:
- The RETRAY Process is given to the manufacturing processes of: sheet, sheet + thermoformed body, thermoformed body or packaging.
- The RETRAY Product certification is granted to specific products made of PET sheet, rigid thermoformed bodies (base, lid) or packaging manufactured in the facilities that have the previously detailed processes already certified.
The RETRAY Process certification verifies, in the sheet manufacturing, thermoforming and packaging processes, compliance with the requirements that must be met in terms of:
- Traceability, both in the incorporation of recycled PET and in the management for subsequent recycling of the PET waste generated.
- Quantification of recycled content under the requirements of standard EN 15343.
The RETRAY Product certification verifies two aspects for the product to be certified:
- The percentage content of recycled material that it incorporates and that the manufacturer declares, calculated under the requirements of standard EN 15343.
- Compliance with the recyclability guidelines defined by the foundation.

HOW TO OBTAIN THE ECOSENSE CERTIFICATE
Prior to the start of the certification/approval process, the interested company (sheet producers, thermoformers and food packers - recyclers, recovery companies and waste managers of sheets and thermoformed PET) must contact info@ecosensefoundation.org
The Certification Bodies have been evaluated by National Accreditation Bodies through a rigorous process based on international standards (ISO/IEC 17065).
If the company is going to use recycled PET from any ECOSENSE recycler in order to produce articles destined to come into contact with food, the company must provide supporting records that demonstrate that complies with the Commission Regulation (EC ) No. 282/2008 on recycled plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foods, as well as all applicable legislation related to plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
Review the requirements of the corresponding RETRAY procedure and compile the documentation.
PROCEDURESOnce the audit has been carried out with a positive result, the Certification Body will issue an audit report. Once the appropriate checks have been carried out, if needed, the foundation will issue the certificate.
The foundation will authorize the company to use the RETRAY label by signing the corresponding agreement where the economic conditions and requirements for this right of use will be collected.

CERTIFICATION ENTITIES
The verification of compliance with the requirements must be carried out by a Certification Body accredited for the ISO/IEC 17065 standard in the RETRAY scheme by an Accreditation Body that is member of EA (European Cooperation for Accreditation) or IAF (International Accreditation Forum), which has signed mutual recognition agreements.

USE OF THE RETRAY LABEL
The Regulation establishes the rules applied by the Foundation for the granting, maintenance and termination of the license to use the RETRAY label brand by certified or approved companies.
