We have an ethical and economic obligation to promote the circular economy for the sake of the present and the future of our planet and its people, and to be able to communicate to society all the efforts made by companies.
To this end, trust, transparency of actions and communication of this reliable information to consumers are essential, a task carried out by the Ecosense Foundation through the RETRAY Certification Scheme, among other promotion and awareness-raising activities.
For these reasons, in 2024 the RETRAY Certification Scheme consolidated the certification procedures not only for the total recycled content, but also for the certification of post-consumer recycling rates and the percentage of recycling from the TRAY to TRAY circuit.
from the TRAY to TRAY loop, thus becoming a unique tool for companies in Europe to demonstrate, through an independent and accredited third party, the circularity of the TRAY-to-tray loop.
Our RETRAY certification scheme is not only the best ally for companies in the sector to respond in the short term to the requirements of the regulatory framework for packaging and packaging waste, but also a key tool in the medium to long term to boost the recycling infrastructure needed in Europe to make all thermoformed PET packaging recyclable by 2030.
More than 200 processes and products were audited in 2024 by Certification Bodies accredited under ISO/IEC 17065 by an Accreditation Body member of EA (European Cooperation for Accreditation) or IAF (International Accreditation Forum) and authorised by the Ecosense Foundation to operate in the RETRAY scheme, consolidating RETRAY as the industry’s preferred certification scheme to ensure the circularity of the tray-to-tray circuit.
Following the incorporation of new trustees at the end of 2023 and their participation in the RETRAY scheme’s Management Committee, decision-making and impartiality on the part of the certification scheme’s main supervisory body has been consolidated.
At the same time, all these strong pillars allowed the Ecosense Foundation to launch the strategic agreement with Petcore Europe, making the RETRAY Scheme the benchmark and trusted certification for its members, within the framework of the Tray Circularity Evaluation Platform (TCEP).
